About this program

Writing that holds under pressure.

English is the subject where effort and grade come apart most often. A student can read widely, care about the work, and still lose marks — because the essay wanders, the thesis never quite commits, or the evidence sits next to the argument instead of inside it.

Our Kitsilano English tutors treat writing as a structure problem before a style problem. We work on thesis, paragraph logic, and using evidence first. Once the frame holds, sentence-level polish follows quickly — and it holds up under timed conditions, which is where BC English marks are really decided.

For younger students the work is different: decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, built on our Keats Booklets and matched to your child’s actual reading level rather than their grade.

We tutor in person at 3317 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6R 4R9 and online across BC, serving Kitsilano, Point Grey, Dunbar, Fairview, and West Point Grey.

Frequently asked

Questions parents ask.

Reading widely builds vocabulary and comprehension, but it does not automatically teach argument structure. Most marks in BC English are lost on thesis clarity and how evidence is used — both learnable skills that reading alone does not cover.
Yes, and it is our most requested English service from Grade 8 upward. We work on thesis construction, paragraph logic, integrating quotations, and writing to a time limit, which is where finals and provincial assessments are decided.
Yes. For K–3 we work on phonics, decoding, and fluency; for Grades 4–7, comprehension and vocabulary. We teach at your child’s actual reading level rather than their grade level, then move up deliberately.
Yes. Kitsilano and the West Side have many multilingual families, and we regularly work with students who are strong thinkers but still building academic English. The plan focuses on academic vocabulary and written structure rather than conversational fluency.
