For students with ADHD, autism, or learning differences, the standard tutoring playbook often fails — not because the student can't learn, but because the format doesn't match the brain. Big classrooms, surprise content shifts, abstract instructions, and high-pressure pacing all work against a brain that needs predictability and clear scaffolding.
Our approach is the opposite: the same tutor every week, the same lesson structure (opener, focus block, break, focus block, summary), a written agenda for each session, and explicit transitions between activities. We move at your child's pace — even when that means three lessons on one concept — because durable learning beats fast learning every time.
We work with families across North Vancouver and West Vancouver, and online across BC. Many of our families come to us after a less-supportive experience elsewhere; we take time on the first call to understand the diagnosis (formal or working), the IEP (if any), and what's already been tried.
Practical things that consistently help students with learning differences make progress.
Tutors trained at UBC and other top universities, specifically interested in supportive teaching. Patience and emotional attunement come first; content second.
Same opener, same flow, same closer. Predictability lowers anxiety and frees up cognitive load for actual learning.
Your child knows exactly what's coming. No surprises. Transitions are signaled clearly: "Five more minutes on this, then break."
Sessions include sensory and movement breaks where helpful. We don't fight the brain — we work with it.
We build slow, durable wins — not quick fixes. The goal is a student who trusts themselves as a learner.
Many ADHD and special-needs students do best with consistent in-person sessions at our North Vancouver centre — a low-stim room, the same tutor each week, predictable physical environment.
For others, online sessions from home work better — familiar surroundings, no transition cost, the ability to break in their own space. We adapt to whichever works.
