What happens in a one-on-one session
School work first
Your child brings homework, tests and the topics they are stuck on. The tutor teaches what is unclear until it makes sense.
Then their learning plan
For BC courses, classwork and homework built from their plan, to close gaps and get ahead. For IB and AP courses, the tutor works from your child's own course material.

IB, AP and SAT

Common struggles we help with
My child is in Grade 8 and struggling with math. Can one-on-one tutoring help?
Yes. Grade 8 math in BC moves into two-step equations, linear relations, percents, fraction operations and the Pythagorean theorem, and a gap from Grade 6 or 7, often fractions or negative numbers, usually shows up here first. In one-on-one sessions at our Kitsilano centre, the tutor works through your child's current homework and tests first, then fills the earlier gaps their learning plan finds. One-on-one is $78 an hour, booked as 5 weekly sessions for $390 plus GST.
My child is failing Math 10 or Pre-Calculus 11. What can we do?
Book a $34 Learning Plan Session to find which earlier topics are causing the trouble, usually algebra, factoring or graphing. Then your child works one-on-one with their tutor every week, on the current unit and the gaps underneath it, at our Kitsilano centre in Vancouver. $78 an hour in packages of 5.
My teen needs help with Pre-Calculus 12 before finals.
One-on-one sessions follow your child's Pre-Calculus 12 course and school tests, with practice on the units still ahead before the final. Book early in the term so there are enough weekly sessions before exams. $78 an hour at our Kitsilano centre.
My child in Grade 4 to 7 still struggles with times tables and fractions.
These are the foundations everything later is built on. The tutor finds where your child's understanding stops, rebuilds it with step-by-step practice, and links it to the homework they bring each week. One-on-one, every week, at our Kitsilano centre. $78 an hour.
My child understands math in class but cannot do the homework at home.
That usually means a concept is half understood. In one-on-one sessions your child brings that night's homework, the tutor teaches the step that is missing, and your child finishes the work themselves. You get a lesson note after every session.
My child struggles with essay writing in English 9 to 12.
One-on-one English sessions work on your child's actual assignments: planning an essay, writing a clear thesis, using evidence and editing. The tutor builds these skills on their school work and BC curriculum material. $78 an hour at our Kitsilano centre.
My younger child is behind in reading. Can a tutor help one-on-one?
Yes. The Learning Plan Session finds where reading breaks down, whether decoding, fluency or understanding what they read, and one-on-one sessions work on that every week, at our Kitsilano centre in Vancouver.
